My Students

Kindergarten students today are active learners. They find sitting and completing pencil and paper activities to be a challenge. However, they love to learn by doing!

Our kindergarten class is located in New Jersey.

This community strives to help all learners meet their potential. The district motto, "That each may learn," reflects this goal. Differentiated instruction and individualized instruction are the keys to achieving in our classrooms!

My Project

These hands-on manipulatives will give my students another method for learning. My kids (like many people) learn best from touching, handling, and using actual objects instead of paper-pencil tasks. The theraputty will allow them to practice their small motor skills at the same time as their academic skills. The fishing set and sight word steps are unique because they allow my students to complete puzzles kinestetically. The kids in my room desperately need these to allow them to focus on other, more attention-based activities.

Hands-on activities and manipulatives are vital to the education of all students, but especially those who have special needs.

If we are able to purchase these items, it will give the kids new, fun activities which will give them multiple ways to learn necessary concepts. While we do focus a lot on functional and life skill tasks, academic activities are just as important for students with severe disabilities. It is important to keep the kiddos engaged and constantly motivated for learning.
