This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a special education teacher, I have the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing students. Most of my students spend time with me outside of their grade level classroom to work on specific skills or gaps in learning, in order to help them achieve grade-level expectations. All of my students are bright and talented individuals who just need someone to really "see" them and listen to them. Sometimes, the work we do can be very frustrating and for some, defeating. Reading can be frustrating for many students but it's particularly frustrating for students when they feel like they "can't" read or when they realize that other students are progressing and they need more time.

My Project

My students are amazing and want to learn, but they need a hands-on approach to learning and need materials to be in their hands. They love to write letters and practice sounds in sand. These trays will help so that everyone has their own tray for their sand, and make everyone feel ownership with the activity while also, keeping it organized. For math, they love to use the Osmo learning apps along with manipulatives to play games. It's a great way for them to enjoy learning new concepts and practice review concepts!
