My Students

Our students come from all over Brooklyn- as we are a district PreK serving many different neighborhoods. This makes our school community diverse and unique. Our students come from varying backgrounds and cultures. Living in New York City, all of our students have been affected by COVID-19. They are 3-5 years of age and learn through open-ended questioning, exploring the process (not focusing on results) and of course, play!

My Project

Our students live in a busy, urban environment which inspires us all the time. We are also fortunate enough to be in walking distance of Prospect Park, which we visit often. On these "Nature Days", our young students are forming a deep relationship with nature, full of learning, respect and care.

In their nature play, children are exploring with their 5 senses by engaging in sensory play with natural materials.

They are digging and playing in the dirt, collecting, observing and classifying natural materials like leaves and rocks, and encountering living creatures. My students are curious and creative in their nature play and the materials in this project will help them take their play even further. The Tuffo Muddy Buddy suits will help keep the children comfortable and dry. The binoculars will encourage them to look closer and explore. The pails and tools will support their sensory play. The plastic habitat will allow us to safely bring discoveries back to our classroom to continue our learning.
