Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help students struggling with math improve their math fluency and close their skills gap with these much-needed supplies. As the math strategist at my school, I have a responsibility to help students from the bottom 30%. The goal is to increase their math performance through targeted and skill-specific tasks and activities to increase their achievement and cover the skills gaps that these students are missing.

The calculators will be used by teachers to build centers and routines in their classrooms without having to use Chromebooks or computers.

Although such technology is a wonderful addition to the class, it often presents a management problem to the teacher. By using small calculators, teachers can worry a little less about management and focus more on teaching. The centers and activities that are planned will help all of the classroom students to improve their speed in solving math facts. Often, students who struggle with math need additional support in increasing their speed and accuracy with such skills. Calculators are a wonderful tool for allowing more self-checking!

The whiteboards will be a much-needed upgrade from the well-used laminated sheets of years past. Although laminated sheets of 100s charts, number lines, and graph paper are nice to have, dry-erase markers wear out over time and become hard to erase from laminated sheets. My solution; increase the lifespan of these tools onto a more durable surface to increase student achievement.

Math is often overlooked by education. ELA is always emphasized. Please support me in supporting students who need that extra push in math to close their achievement gap before moving on to the upper grades! Thank you!
