Help me give my students a purple martin house to add additional habitat at our school in order to make observations on native species and increase biodiversity.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are curious learners, constantly asking questions, digging deeper, and trying to understand the world around them. They seek meaning rather than just comprehension, and are willing to do the work to get there. As an Environmentally focused school, my students are also always on the lookout for better ways to keep our planet and ourselves healthier.
These are kids who care; they care about the world around them and how their actions impact more than just themselves.
When an answer isn't simple or straight-forward, we learn how to use science in order to gather information and make positive changes for our school, community, and the environment.
My Project
Invasive species, pesticide use, climate change, habitat loss. These are all problems that face the native and declining species: the purple martin. With a smaller and more vulnerable population, many martins have begun to rely on human-created nest spaces, which coincides well with their ability to thrive in close proximity to humans and their dwellings. This relationship has continued for hundreds of years, dating back to pre-European North America where Native Americans would hang empty gourds up for the birds to nest in.
Installing a purple martin house provides vital nesting sites for a beautiful and imperiled bird.
Because they nest in large colonies they will not only be a very visual element on and around our campus, but the insect-eating birds will also help to reduce flying pest insects, and will improve any outdoor experience immensely.
With purple martins present, our students will have the opportunity to help a declining species, to make real-world observations, collect data on eggs and nestlings, study migration patterns, learn about wildlife conservation, animal husbandry, and help to increase our school's biodiversity.
