My students come from a low-income area in southwest Virginia. There are around 30 guys on the JV and varsity team which the equipment will benefit. These student-athletes know what it means to work hard inside the classroom as well as on the field. I am teaching these athletes not only to have a love for baseball, but also many characteristics which they can take with them the rest of their life. These include: teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and dedication, just to name a few. My athletes are very talented and work hard on and off the field, and I want them to be able to have the practice equipment they need to be successful and prepare for games.
My Project
With COVID-19 money is a huge issue in local high school sports. We are in need of basic equipment that has to be purchased before we can even play a game. I have a senior heavy team this year that had their junior season last year taken from them because of the virus. This bunch is very talented and has the opportunity to have a great year. The equipment that we are buying will make practice run smoothly so we can get the most out of the little time we are going to have to play a season this year.
