Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach English on the east side of Las Vegas at a Title I school. My students are eager to learn and brilliant, but often lack the materials needed to achieve all they could. Most of my students are Latinx or African American and many have not been successful in an academic environment.

I aim to change all that!

Together we have built a thriving environment where each student is encouraged to find their passions and explore the joy that literature can provide.

My Project

Covid has made students shy and withdrawn. Flexible seating choices, indirect lighting, and class t-shirts, will build community and that students can learn how to socialize together and engage in academic discourse (such as 9-10.1, 1b, 4, and 6.). A printer will enable students to sit in their new "cafe" area and print their assignments directly in the classroom, also creating that positive atmosphere.

Creating a safe, warm space for students to engage in the business of school will go far to helping students emotionally and academically overcome the problems of the past year.
