My Project

Hi, my name is Ms. Spann, and I am a first-year Kindergarten teacher. I have created this project to build a classroom community that encourages learning in each of my students. This year, I need a rug and math manipulatives to create the best learning environment for my incoming class.

In a Kindergarten classroom, a rug is the meeting area where children gather to begin and end their day.

This rug is the central meeting area for whole-group instruction. It is a place where children will collaborate on their learning and discuss their many ideas about multiple content areas. A classroom rug may also serve as not only a common meeting area but also as a flexible seating option. Flexible seating allows for children to take ownership of where their learning can happen inside of the classroom.

Using math manipulatives helps children bring math to life. My Kindergarteners need to learn how to count and identify numbers, sort, add, subtract, compose, and decompose numbers and shapes these skills are taught using math manipulatives. Please help me shape the minds of our future mathematicians by providing math manipulatives such as counters, counting cubes, dice, and the like.

Fulfilling my project will help me create a meeting area for my classroom and provide resources that help their math skills develop.
