My Students

Where do I begin? The students I have the pleasure and honor of teaching are smart, kind, energetic, motivated, and loving. They have the drive to reach their highest learning potential. These hardworking children in the fifth grade and are such deeply curious learners. They live in a very low-socioeconomic community in Harlem, New York and receive free or reduced-price breakfast, lunch, and after-school snacks.

My students are in an inclusive classroom and all have unique learning needs as they all have diagnosed disabilities, or as I like to call it "developmental variations." Many of them have parents that are doing their very best to survive but need support to ensure their children are not being neglected at home.

My students have many burdens they are exposed to and it is essential that they feel safe, loved, included, and inspired at school, and that is why I need your help!

My Project

These materials will help cultivate a calm classroom community for my fifth graders! The various decorative items will allow my co-teacher and me to redecorate our classroom that has not been revamped since the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID. Many of our students have not been in the classroom in school since March of 2020. So, we wanted to have fresh new supplies and a color scheme that is made up of cool, calming colors since the outside world is unpredictable and chaotic.

These children deserve to have the most incredible fifth grade year, especially since some of them have not been in conventional school since third grade.

The supplies help my co-teacher and I stay organized as well as eliminating any anxiety students might have about not being able to bring in their own supplies to due their low socio-economic status. My students will use and benefit from all of the materials and resources in a variety of ways. The card stock will be used to mount student work on the walls of the classroom. The students will use markers, colored pencils and other similar supplies to enhance their creativity and learning in all academic subject areas. Each student will receive their own pair of headphones to use with their technology devices when working independently on our digital curriculums in reading, writing, and math. The clips are used to display important charts, notices, or other resources on the board at the front of the classroom. The notebooks and name plates will be used so that students can have their own space to work that is labeled with their names.

We are so excited to welcome them into their last year of elementary school beginning with the learning environment.
