Greetings from Ms. Self and The Selfies! I am a first year teacher heading into kindergarten. I student taught at this school last semester and fell in love with the community. A majority of my students come from low socioeconomic families. My students come from all over the world. When I student taught last semester, fourteen out of twenty-one students were ESL. Several of my students and their families are refugees from other countries. They are new to the country and have very little income. Every student needs a special teacher to love them and shower them with educational opportunities that they may not receive at home. Some of my babies come to school every day in the same shirt and pants, even if they are growing out of them. I would love to create a loving and growing classroom. I have spent my summer searching high and low for materials to create a wonderful and educational space for my new babies to come. Unfortunately, it's just not enough. I hope you will find it your heart to reach out a helping hand for these wonderful children.

My Project
A majority of my students come from low socioeconomic families. My students come from all over the world. They have very little income and resources. The materials requested will create a literacy enriched classroom. My classroom is not equipped with the key essentials for a listening center. The audio books will be an essential asset for my center. Literacy includes recognizing and forming letters. The play-doh will be a great tool to help the students form letter shapes. Writing is is part of the literacy learning process. The students will use the dry erase markers on a daily basis as they are developing their writing skills. The carpet rug requested creates a comfortable and inviting environment, as well as, creates environmental print in the classroom. As a first year teacher, I have shopped high and low to create a classroom library that offers a variety of children's favorite books. Due to lack of funds, I have been unable to obtain all materials that I think will be essential for my emergent readers.
