Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year is the first year I am teaching a regents class and it is also the first year NYC will be implementing the Biology Regents. My colleagues and I have been working this summer to prepare lessons and curriculum to the best of our ability so that students are being given the greatest opportunity to not only pass their exams and graduate high school in the long run but more importantly to gain critical thinking skills that are necessary outside of the school walls. Within these school walls, however, I want to be able to provide my students with a welcoming, organized space that is easy to navigate and includes as many resources as I can possibly provide for them to have a successful 50-minute period each day.

Organizational items, such as the storage bins/baskets, pencil cases, Ziploc bags, etc.

will help students to keep lab and other class materials easy to differentiate and simple for students to access when needed. Other items like pencils, whiteboard markers, and paper will be accessible for students to use. It’s crucial that these materials are readily available for students to have when they need it so class time can run more smoothly. Lastly, the human body model would be an incredible asset for us in the classroom. Students’ understanding of structures is limited when all that is available are photos and 2-D models. This 3-D model of the human body will be super helpful in seeing how these structures look in the body, but also how they work together with other structures to help us focus on the whole organism.

Each item in this list has been thoughtfully selected, but anything you are able to help provide my students with will be appreciated and helpful for our classroom. Thank you!
