My Students

I work with an incredibly diverse group of students and they always keep me on my toes. I am trying hard to constantly engage them and I want to bring them lessons they will enjoy. I work in a high needs district and this would truly benefit the population I serve. My students learn in many different ways so I am hoping to bring in new resources this year that will add to my lessons and ensure every student walks away with valuable information.

My Project

I am hoping that I can raise funds for a classroom set of Scholastic magazines that will be helpful to a new course I am teaching and will allow my students to discuss real world issues. Massachusetts is pushing hard to make civic engagement an important aspect of Social Studies curriculums in every school.

I have used these magazines in the past and they allowed my students to learn about ongoing current events and debate issues that face teenagers like them.

They also give students the ability to analyze important Supreme Court decisions that are still relevant today. Overall, the UpFront magazines put out by the New York Times help students gain the skills necessary to be productive citizens in the future and understand their rights.

This will provide a classroom set of student magazines and teacher resources for each of the 14 issues they release this school year. Any help in making this possible would be truly appreciated. Thank you so much!
