My Students

Hello friends!

Martin Luther King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

Next year, I will be teaching middle school english/social studies in Los Angeles, California. As a sixth grade teacher, they will be entering their very first year of middle school. I will be working with about sixty different students in an ethnically linguistically diverse, and low income community. As an educator, I believe that the liberal arts is a powerful tool to promote civic engagement, public service, and social justice.

My Project

I will beginning my first year of teaching in a sixth grade English and Social Studies classroom. In my experience as student teacher, I have seen the ways in which great books help students grow in literacy skills and become passionate about reading and writing.

As a teacher, I want to foster their passion for reading by providing a library of books that are interesting, relevant, and relatable to their own lives to both read in the classroom and take home.

Great teachers build large libraries over years of teaching, and this project will start that foundation. Unfortunately, many of my students may not have access to quality books at home and have opportunities to receive new books on a regular basis. This project will help begin an engaging classroom library. This project will help students for years to come!
