Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year was my second year as a teacher in the NYCDOE. My kindergarten students have a variety of needs. With the school demographics being 79% Hispanic, and 13% English Language Learners, many resources are needed to ensure that all learners needs are being met. In kindergarten, one of the most important things to have is environmental print around the room, and visuals to go along with all teaching materials.

Our school's mission is to collaboratively educate the whole child.

My students deserve the best education possible, and I want to make sure I have the resources to provide them with that.

My Project

These supplies would make a HUGE difference in my classroom. The headphones are needed so that the students can go on the computer during the day, or during centers to use a educational literacy program called iRead. The printer will be a huge help in having colorful visuals for the children. Having pictures helps students identify words, and understand a story more clearly. The sharpener will be helpful because the students need to have a sharp pencil at all times, and right now we only have little ones that take so long and leave a mess! The velcro would allow us to add to our interactive word wall! Students can pick a word from the word wall they need help spelling, pull it off to use, and then velcro it back on!

Some of the most important items on this wishlist are the A-C leveled books .

Our classroom library is a bit dated and students need and deserve more updated books to practice reading strategies and to develop a love for reading! Students would be so much more excited to come to school and learn with these special new materials. Some of my students don't have any books at home, so it makes a huge difference in their lives when they get to come to school and have a vast selection of books to choose from, and borrow!
