My Students

At our school, I teach 8th graders from South Dallas reading, writing, art, and literacy. They are fun and thoughtful kids with a lot of potential. Over 80% of our student population are from low-income homes, and often come to us with many deficits.

They are willing to work hard to learn new things and prepare themselves for college, but they often do not have the basic materials they need for school like pencils and notebooks.

They are creative and energetic, and I love watching them grow over the course of the year as they prepare to transition to high school.

My Project

These materials will provide my scholars with a strong learning environment where they feel motivated to do their best work! Art materials will be used both in the day to day classroom as well as for my art club. My school does not have any art classes, and this club is a wonderful opportunity for scholars to explore the visual arts.

New books and art materials will allow students access to resources they would not have otherwise and help the classroom run smoothly.

Materials such as Kleenex and paper towels are not provided by the school, but are necessary to have in the classroom.
