Ms. A.'s Highly Capable Classroom

My students need an organizer and bookshelf for a classroom that will allow them to work through every kind of activity. Having a classroom with limited functionality, is too much pressure if put on educators to correct that issue.

My Students

I am a teacher at a Title one school that is given very few supplies for a large number of students.

My scholars come to me from homes that are struggling with buying school uniforms that are required for class therefore don't have the funds to buy adequate school supplies as well.

The 4-drawer cart organizer will be paired 1 per group (with a classroom of about 35 scholars, I typically have 9 groups of 4 throughout my classroom). Each drawer will be stocked with writing supplies, pencil sharpeners, paper, etc., so that scholars can get the materials they need without having to get up and hunt for them, or embarrass themselves for repeatedly coming to class without supplies.

The bookcase shelving will be used to decorate and house binders so that materials don't have to always leave the classroom unless needed.

The dry-erase boards will be used for all group work to display discussion answers, thoughts, ideas, questions to the class when group work time is up.

All of these things are going to make my classroom not only function more fluidly, BUT will make the ambiance of the room feel more home-like and less business-like.

My Project

Donations to this project request will make a difference with my scholars' learning because they will not be focused, or made to feel embarrassed about the fact that they do not have adequate school supplies to participate in classroom activities. By stocking my classroom with whatever it is my scholars will need, the focus goes back to learning and less on what materials they may need. I feel as an educator it is OUR responsibility to provide them with the tools that they need to succeed and sometimes those tools are what we can physically give them to put their ideas into motion. Because the school is limited in the supplies we are given, it is on the community to make the classroom warmer.
