Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a newer teacher for students with disabilities, grades 1-6, this upcoming school year I will be prioritizing social emotional learning. My students are in a district 75 elementary school in Downtown Brooklyn, New York and I believe a well equipped calming corner will enhance and improve communication within my classroom. The calming corner will provide a sense of safety in the middle of hectic school day, and having an inviting calming corner in the classroom will allow students to freely express their needs and provide opportunity for self regulation.

My goal for this project is to make sure my students have the necessary tools and resources to have the most successful school year possible.

I want to ensure that my classroom environment is well furnished for the year as well, furniture can make such an impact on a room's energy. I'm striving to make sure all the social emotional learning needs of my students can and will be met with materials readily accessible to them in their own classroom.

My students are incredibly lively and passionate. They are young, ages range from 8-9, but they're such avid learners who are always so eagerly curious about the world around them. I firmly believe that with the right environment a students' potential is limitless, my students are no exception to this.
