Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an up and coming Pre-k through grade 5 school. The students in my school are sweet, genuine kids who are eager to learn and grow. They love coming to school, working with the staff and being around their friends. At my school, the greater majority of the students are of low income households, 94% of them eligible for receiving free lunch. Over the course of the last 6 years our school has been growing grade by grade and next year we will finally be full by adding on 3-K and Pre-K.

My Project

A Social Emotional education is just as vital in a child's life as an academic one. Children who are taught to express themselves in a healthy way grow to be more accepting, socially conscious adults. In Pre-K we hope to foster this growth through the Teddy Bear Curriculum. In Lesley Koplow's books Unsmiling Faces and Bears Bears Everywhere!, she discusses the importance of supporting children's emotional health in the classroom through love, warmth and play. Please help me in providing my students with these opportunities by allowing us to have the materials we need to let these teddy bears live in our classroom!
