Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a low income school with a large immigrant and refugee population. My goal is to instill a love of reading and writing in my students, but that is hard to do when they don't have the necessary supplies to practice those skills.

Many of my student's families do not have the money to buy them all of the supplies they need.

These are hardworking families that want the best for their children, but for many reasons cannot afford the long list of supplies.

My Project

Since many of my children are English language learners, I try and do as many hands on experiences as I can in my classroom. The more my students can write and practice on their own, the better! This means many projects, group writing assignments, and drawing many pictures. This is where the pencils, markers, crayons and colored pencils will come in mighty handy! We will use the composition notebooks for interactive notebooks, folders to hold all of their grammar work and rubrics, and the spiral notebooks will be used for our many writing activities! As we all know, kids can get messy. Especially when working on projects! The Clorox wipes, paper towels, and hand sanitizer will be used to assist students in cleaning up their inevitable messes.

Many of my students will come to me without the supplies they need which means the financial burden will fall on me to supply my students with what they need.

By providing my students with these needed supplies, this lessens the burden on both their families and myself. These supplies will be used in every part of our learning every day and will happily be used by all of my classes.
