My Students

A typical day within my third grade class would begin with teacher centered instruction then move to small group instruction incorporating both teacher and student led groups. I try to differentiate my lessons as much as possible so that all types of learners can have their individual needs met.

Most students within our school are below poverty level and have difficulty affording the basic necessities such as supplies and the like.

Our students all qualify for a free breakfast and lunch daily. Teachers use their yearly allotment to buy basic necessities to keep the classroom running.

My Project

My students will use these centers daily as a follow up to a teacher centered lesson as well as during optional student elected center time. I chose common core centered activities to help move my students from below basic to proficient. Our school has less than 40% proficiency in both math and reading. I believe these centers will help make learning more fun and interesting and allow them to stay focused and on task for a longer period of time. The demand on students with taking PSSA testing is difficult but with such low level students my job becomes more challenging. I love being able to spark students interest by using centers because they have fun without realizing they are working.

I feel my project will make a difference in the lives of my students because it will allow them to learn and have fun while doing so.

This in turn, from my experience, has helped greatly over the years.
