Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My diverse group of 10th and 11th graders in Fresno are some of the most economically underserved in Central California. Teachers provide nearly every single material students use so that they don't miss out on hands on, engaging and academically challenging activities and projects. More than anything, I want my students to have the opportunities I never did. I want them to see what they study, feel what they study, and to experience what they study in ways that a textbook just cannot provide.

This is my chance to demonstrate the importance of historical and critical thinking and to show my kids that history is more than just reading about people long dead and far away events.

History is us. It's now. It's about how we got to this very moment in time and how it guides us into the future.

My Project

The items in this project will go towards making my classroom a more inviting place for students.

I want my students to feel safe, relaxed, and most importantly, I want to be able to provide my students with meaningful instruction.

Many of my students are without headphones, and so having extra pairs I can sanitize between classes will help them keep up. The book of US history resources will allow me to plan more engaging assignments, and the wall coverings will help the classroom feel less like a room with four white walls and more like an inviting space for study.
