My Students

"Be the change you wish to see in this world." -Gandhi I would like to see children read more and express their creativity. Please help me create an inviting library and writing space.

My first graders are 33 of the most amazing children in the Philadelphia school district.

I've heard from their kindergarten teachers that they have great potential that needs to be nurtured. They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are suffering from circumstances beyond their control. I refuse to let a cash-strapped school district impede on their elementary school experience. They deserve all I'm asking for and more. My students need 4 Adirondack Chairs, a chalkboard desk and chair set, and basic supplies for daily use such as pencils, glue, and crayons.

My Project

The item I'm most excited about is the traditional school house desk with the chalkboard top. This desk will be the center piece in my "Creation Station," which is an idea derived from the book Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes. In this space, students will earn time to let their imagination run wild. The desk will house paper, art supplies, stickers, and other materials I've requested to aid in their projects. I am also asking for children's Adirondack chairs that will be used during independent reading time. Students that are assigned to independent reading will be allowed to place the chairs in a quiet spot and relax with a good book.

These donations will help to make my classroom more visually appealing as well as provide my students with their daily supplies.

If you've ever stepped foot in an early childhood classroom, you know that supplies such as pencils, paper, crayons, and glue dry up faster than water in the desert. Please help me ensure that my students are not lacking the supplies they need on a daily basis. Thank you!
