Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello, I am a first grade dual language teacher at PS 124. This year has been a great challenge, however I can not begin to express how proud I am of my students and their continued courage to come to school every day. My babies come every day ready to learn and are excited about it. They are creative, thoughtful and full of questions. They are always ready for a challenge. They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! However this year with social distancing and not being allowed to share materials some of the hands on activities and centers that they would normally go to are off limits to them. Being required to sit at their desk all day can sometime be difficult as well. Even borrowing books from our class library is difficult. My students love to read and love math. They are also learning Spanish and love speaking the language and love learning new things.

My Project

Currently, some of my students do not have materials required for learning activities and the selection of books in my classroom library can be improved. These materials will allow each of my students to have their own supplies, Due to current global conditions, students are not allowed to share their materials. Although currently there is a library in the classroom, all of my students have read most of the books. My students crave to be challenged and have petitioned for a larger variety of genres. Holidays are coming and I would love to have the materials needed to have my students do special projects for their families. Budget cuts in the DOE have left administration unable to purchase certain items.
