This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello, I am a first grade dual language teacher. This year has been a great challenge, however I can not begin to express how proud I am of my students and their continued courage to come to school every day. My babies come every day ready to learn and are excited about it. They are creative, thoughtful and full of questions. They are always ready for a challenge. They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! However this year, with social distancing and not being allowed to share materials, some of the hands-on activities and centers that they would normally go to are off limits to them. Being required to sit at their desk all day can sometime be difficult as well. Even borrowing books from our class library is difficult. My students love to read and love math. They are also learning Spanish and love speaking the language and love learning new things.
My Project
During the 2020-2021 school year, I discovered that one of the most exciting parts of my students day was when they would go book shopping. This upcoming school year I want my new students to experience the same excitement. During the previous school year my students used the classroom library to escape and having books that my students did not normally have access to made a major difference. After doing a brief survey of the types of books my students enjoyed, I was able to put together an amazing assortment of books for my new class to enjoy.
