My Students

We are a student centered classroom that is excited to take large leaps this year by enhancing the literacy block through the words their way program! A typical day in my classroom revolves around hands-on activities and exploration for students to engage and grow independently!

A large majority of my students are ESL students and come from a Title I community (68% of our students are free or reduced lunch).

Our students are very motivated and hard working which makes coming to work every day an exciting adventure. Our students have a thirst for learning that reminds us every day that they want to come out of poverty and make a difference for themselves and their families.

My Project

My students need these organizational materials to allow them to become highly involved in their literacy centers. The notebooks, alphabet letters, and other literacy materials will allow my students to have more time to engage in reading and writing without distraction. My students will benefit greatly by incorporating hands-on materials and games to their literacy block. I would like rich and rigorous materials that will challenge my students on a daily basis. By providing literacy games, puzzles, word sorts, and manipulatives my students' understanding will go to a whole new level! These items will be "choices" that my students can make every day during literacy rotations. This approach takes the worksheets out of their hands and replaces them with quality learning experiences.

Student centered learning and centers are new approaches that I have taken this year and it has changed my classroom entirely!

My students are more excited about reading/writing, are learning at a much more rapid pace. I want to continue to offer my students amazing stations to chose from, to continue this success! When students walk into a classroom and see all of the amazing materials and choices they possess, the smile and excitement on their faces proudly shows that eagerness for learning!
