This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are the most resilient and compassionate students I have encountered throughout my career. They inspire me everyday to alter my thinking and open my mind. My Mental Health Crew creates an open space for my students to talk about different mental health topics that may be affecting them personally, in their family, and in their community. We tackle issues that they feel they cannot speak about anywhere else. Their voices are heard. We navigate these issues by sharing different stories and exploring different coping mechanisms to help them navigate how to successfully discuss mental health in a positive way. My goal is to help my students understand the many mental health issues surrounding their community and to eliminate any stigma they may have about these issues. The goal is to help them be able to turnkey and give back in their own communities to educate someone else who may not be knowledgeable about the topics that we discuss. I am requesting chips, cookies, crackers and candy to keep my students full when we are in deep discussion. The snack care packages that include cookies, chips, crackers, nuts and candy are requested for my students who ask for more to take home and to offer as an incentive to encourage more student participation. The cleaning wipes are requested to keep the space sanitized and clean after eating snacks.
