My Students

The thing that makes every student of mine special is that they come from different ethnic backgrounds from the pacific islands. This is an extraordinary situation because many students learn English as their second language. In addition, in Hawaii, many students speak "pidgin," a dialect of English. This makes learning content very challenging for them. As a result, it is my due diligence to differentiate instruction to ensure equity amongst all of my learners.

After two years of virtual learning, my students have expressed that learning "traditionally" is what they want, and as I value student's voices, I plan to honor their requests.

Additionally, as a social studies teacher, I work hard to keep students engaged through artwork and creativity so that each student may live outside of a textbook and composition book.

My Project

Students will use poster papers and markers to create anchor charts and make project posters. They will benefit from the resources because they will have resources for projects like culture, renaissance drawing, literary text analysis, journaling, and design. These resources will allow students to do a wide range of activities instead of reading a textbook every day. These activities require appropriate tools. Without supplies, students do not have the tools they need to succeed. These activities keep students engaged, and the outcomes are for them to experience hands-on learning in history.
