My Project

We are seeking a DonorsChoose grant to integrate Ozobots and morphology-based activities into the elementary curriculum at our school. This innovative project aims to enhance students' understanding of robotics and language structure through interactive and engaging learning experiences. By combining the coding capabilities of Ozobots with morphology instruction, we aim to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and linguistic skills among our students.

In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, it is crucial for students to develop foundational skills in technology and language.

Our elementary students currently lack sufficient exposure to interactive technology that integrates seamlessly with core curriculum subjects. Moreover, understanding the structure and formation of words—morphology—is essential for literacy development but often receives insufficient focus in traditional classroom settings.

A. Objectives

Enhance Technological Literacy: Introduce Ozobots as a tool for teaching basic programming and robotics concepts.

Improve Morphological Understanding: Use Ozobots to create interactive activities that reinforce morphology, the study of word structure from using the Vocabulary Surge Curriculum.

Develop Critical Skills: Foster problem-solving, logical reasoning, and collaboration skills among students.

B. Methodology

Integration of Ozobots:

Introduction to Coding: Students will learn basic coding principles using Ozobots, small programmable robots that follow color-coded paths.

Interactive Projects: Students will design and program Ozobot paths that correspond with morphological concepts such as prefixes, suffixes, and root words.

Morphology-Based Activities:

Morphological Games: Create and implement games where Ozobots navigate paths that represent different morphological structures. For example, paths can illustrate how different prefixes and suffixes modify base words.

Storytelling with Ozobots: Students will use Ozobots to act out stories that include morphological elements, helping to visualize and understand how word parts contribute to meaning.
