This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My band and orchestra musicians want to play and want to play well. During the pandemic, many of them started slipping away from their passion to make music. They did not receive the direct individual AND group instruction so important to developing a true love for their instrument and love for being heard.

We are at a Title I, low income school and funds are hard to come by for the daily essentials required in order for students to learn to play correctly.

And many students cannot afford these essentials (e.g. reeds, valve oil, cleaning kits, music, hardware, etc.). When my students have these items, they flourish. They have the desire to learn quickly and they are unstoppable. The COVID-19 pandemic and all of its restrictions almost shut down our music department. The kids now, however, are finally coming back strong and surging in their need to know how to get better as musicians. All they need is the tools to keep them going and growing.
