Help me give my students tunable tubano drums and a gathering drum to build our world music program.

My Project

The items I am requesting are percussion instruments that will allow my students to become more involved in different cultural music by giving them direct access to instruments to learn by experiencing and performing. The tubano drum is used in many Latin American music styles, as are the guiros that are also requested. The gathering drum is deeply rooted in Native and Indigenous cultures that allows many students to play the drum at the same time.

The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic music making of other world cultures.

Students will learn by using these instruments in class daily to different songs and by working in small groups to create their own percussion parts.

My students come from a diverse background, with more students joining us as the year progresses. My students greatly benefit from performing instrumental music because of different barriers such as language, culture, and past experiences. Music is a language we all can learn and experience. As their teacher, I know the students will become better musicians by having these instruments available to them.
