My Students

If we are going to prepare our children for the 21st-century workforce we literally, and figuratively, need to get with the program. My students are a motivated group of fourth graders. They attend our community school in Southern California with a total population of about 600 kids.

Why do the classrooms look the same as they did 30 years ago?

It can be frustrating for teachers who want to equip their classrooms with the most current technology. Kids today have so many impressive and amazing tools available to them, but the funding just isn't there. We need to prepare children for their futures, which will be very different than the world today. A different world requires a different approach to education. That is what I strive to provide to my students.

My Project

Two of my most integral pieces of equipment in my previous classrooms were an LED projector and a document camera. Ever since I began using these teaching accessories, I have found them incredibly useful for improving student achievement. Rather than writing everything on the board, which invariably gets erased, I can project my notebook to the class. That way they can see how their notebooks should look, and we have the added benefit of a written record of my lessons. There was always one major drawback: I was always getting in the way. You see, the equipment needs to be at the front of the classroom because of the technological limitations.

By installing this projector and mount, the kids will have a much clearer view of their lessons.

I can be at the back of the classroom, which provides several advantages. First there is the obvious one: I'll be out of the way! The students will have an unobstructed view of the lessons. Also, I won't have my back to the class, so I will more quickly be able to see raised hands or struggling students. That also means it will be more difficult for my little angels to get away with any shenanigans during class!
