My Project

My class is incredible. I nicknamed them fearless first graders because they truly are fearless. They crave information more than any class I have experienced in my 20+ years of teaching. My students are curious and thoughtful students who are often challenging the research and work we do in our science lessons by asking thought-provoking questions. This allows us to have deeper and more purposeful conversations about animal and plant defenses. One particular question that came up in our discussion was "What are the defenses of animals in NYC? How do they take care of themselves in our busy city?"

The bird feeder camera will be super helpful in helping this, and future classes, get real-life information and data on the local bird populations and how they survive in the hustle and bustle of NYC.

We will use the feeder for both science and math exploration. In math, we will track data of types of birds and frequency of feeding and graph the data through our data and measurement math unit.
