My Students

My speech students are lively energetic youngsters who have many individual needs with high expectations ahead of them.

They come from very diverse backgrounds. Most of them come from very low income families and receive free or reduced lunches. They face many difficult obstacles in their lives, yet they still manage to come to school excited and ready to learn. Their ability to overcome inspires me to do everything in my power to teach them all they can learn. I want to make their time in school as beneficial and enjoyable as possible while still providing them with all the materials they need to reach their maximum potential.

My Project

I believe students who are comfortable in their setting are more willing and able to learn. By allowing my students to use objects to relieve their sensory needs is the best way to help them gain and maintain focus on what is important. I am requesting wiggle seat cushions to allow them to obtain the sensory input of a slight motion while still remaining focused. The sensory balls and bean bags are for my students who have a need to constantly touch or play with items. When holding the ball they will be able to focus on the work in front of them rather then looking for items to play with. The weight of a bean bag on their legs or lap can also help keep them focused. I visualize my students focused and working towards their speech goals.

These chair cushions, bean bags and sensory balls will help keep them focused, engaged, active and interested while learning.

They will also allow them to reach the table at a more comfortable height, learn their colors and experience different textures!
