My students are amazing young learners who have been working at home to try to get prepared for middle school. We are from a school with a large amount of our students on free and reduced lunches (over 65%). I feel my job each year is to get them prepared for middle school. I would love to be able to give them each a lock to practice with over the summer for middle school as well as an organizer to be prepared for the fall.
Usually, I spend a few weeks during the school year, practicing with each student and having them put one on their locker.
However, this year without the capability to do that with them, I would love to help them prepare by giving each student a lock to practice with at home.
My Project
Beginning in April and continuing to the end of the year, I begin working with my 5th graders to prepare for middle school. However, this year, I'm unable to since we are no longer in the school setting where I can practice locks with them, discuss what materials to get before they get to middle school, etc.
This year, they have lost out on their end of elementary school parties, graduation, etc and I just want to be able to help them not miss out on practicing opening a locker which is a huge stress many have and helping them see a way to organize their lockers to help them feel more at ease in the huge transition they will have in the fall.
I'm hoping this will help us work together on how to open a lock and use the items to organize their lockers.
