My Students

My classroom is full of learners from diverse backgrounds.

Every day my kids come in with smiles on their faces, ready to learn something new. We are a Title I campus so that doesn't leave us a lot of room for extras. My kids normally come with the basics, and that is about it. I still hold my kids to the highest standards, and they always meet them!

My Project

My school is located in eastern Montgomery county not far from the San Jacinto river. This is a place that saw a lot of flooding and loss after Hurricane Harvey. Our kids are extremely resilient, though. The community around our school is amazing and came together in a time of need to help each other out. I was lucky enough to join these kids right after the hurricane due to an influx of students.

We need options for flexible seating and card stock, markers, crayons and other materials to create hands-on math centers and games.

Kids need to be able to move to learn. I teach math and science and try to make these subjects more than just a series of worksheet pages. Every day my kids are engaging with each other in stations to discuss and solve math problems. Creating work stations that are engaging requires tons of supplies. Paper, glue sticks, and markers are just the beginning. I want my kids to really be able to apply our learning to real world situations.

While technology is an awesome tool, I want them to be able to know how to problem solve without it, too. I believe movement and the ability to make choices is a big part of students taking charge of their education. Not only are they learning and practicing self-control, but they are also figuring out how they work best. Some of my students thrive in groups and can get a lot of out them; however, I have students who prefer a quiet corner to reflect and think for a few minute before diving in deeper. The stools and lap boards may be just the thing. Clipboards allow my students to either stand and do work or find that just right spot to complete their work.
