Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My learners are extremely diverse, from Abroad and through out the united states. Due to hurricane Irma we have recently received learners from Puerto Rico. Many are Autistic and IND (Intellectually Neurology Disable), and I have three learners that are non-verbal and have no sign language knowledge. Most of my verbal learners speak different languages and bring too my class a strong sense of cultural identity. Our school has a ESOL language program. However, our school is also situated in a low-income neighborhood, which means we seldom receive, and/or always have access to the resources we need to support this community of ESE/ESOL learners. In my class I want to implement brain stimulant which will "Make a Difference"! My learners need firm desks, ball chairs, mini tablets, tablet charging station, and soft seats that give them the options they need for their best learning, including seating, standing, and movement choices. They need audio books, tablets, cleaners, crayons to express their talent. I need my learners to understand that the classroom is not a timid and scary place but a classhome. A place where difference is accepted, and Learning is fun.

My Project

My learners are in need of ball chairs, Bouncy, tablets, desk, tablet charging station, and soft seats that give them the options they need for their best learning, including sitting, standing, and movement choices. Most Autistic learners move around and fidgit with no communication with any one. I teach each learner that "If I can do it, you can do it". I want my learners to know that the world is theirs to explore, and reading books can take them near and far. Using technology will allow them the opportunity to reach out to other learners within our school, and abroad. Our school is moving toward becoming a virtual school. We are able to communicate with other classes within our district. I would like to use the tablets in each one of my classes. It will give my learners the experience of virtual learning, and social skills. Please help me create an ideal learning environment for my learners. Cognitive research has shown that children learn best when they have the opportunity to move around in the classroom. A home away from home. My autistic, and IND learners learn very differently. Each one has a different way they are able to learn best: physically, cognitively, and emotionally. My goal is to provide each learner with options so they can determine what helps them learn, whether that is standing at a desk, sitting on the floor, or sitting in chairs they can wiggle. I need them to understand theirs more to technology than games. This will give my middle school learners their individual voices and choices in the classroom. It will allow them to take ownership of their environment and their learning. While showing them how to become stakeholders in how they learn.
