My Students

My students are an incredible group of energetic First Graders who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our class is composed of eight students, each with unique academic, social, emotional and sensory needs. In order to touch on each student's needs, it is imperative that I construct and tailor individualized lessons/activities as well as create a structured environment with flexible seating.

My students are passionate about learning new things and enjoy using sensory materials.

With this standing desk I will be able to meet their needs while keeping things fun and exciting!

My Project

My students need a standing desk to keep they're little bodies busy while keeping their brains engaged in learning. This desk will provide them with the sensory input they need to succeed. Many of my students struggle to complete their assignments because they don't have the core to sit up in their chairs during independent work time. Many of these students often wiggle in their spots which leads them to distract others. The unique design of this standing desk allows students to stand up and move around without being a disturbance to others.

It has been proven that sensory feedback activated by standing helps children access working memory and process information more efficiently.

This effect is especially noticeable in children with learning differences like autism. Standing desks help children stay engaged in classroom activities. This ultimately drives them to success.
