This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm with a Special Needs, self-contained third grade. That's a mouthful and a handful. The children range from ADD, ADHD to Autistic, ED (Emotionally Disturbed) and Learning Disabled. Every day is a new beginning with these shining stars. They're amazingly curious and full of wonder. This world is a strange place and these little darlings are just beginning to find their place in it. Their curiosity and their simplistic view of life amazes me daily. They have the capacity to love freely and trust me with their tender hearts. I don't take that lightly.

My Thundercats are hard-working and full of energy.

Some of them are on medication to control their impulsive behavior and outbursts. All of them hold the keys to my heart. I've got to reorganize and redirect their energy. It's difficult enough in the classroom; now, with this remote learning, they're struggling more than ever.

My Project

I am requesting lummi sticks, egg shakers and musical clatterpillars. As we all know the Covid19 virus has changed the way we live. When we first shut down and switched over to remote learning, the children were excited about using their tabs and laptops but, the excitement wore off very quickly.

For children with Special Needs it's very difficult to sit by a computer for long periods of time and they consider 15 minutes a long period.

Rhythm sticks and drums help us tell stories and act out the parts. Not only will they have fun, they will also benefit from the movement. They love using onomatopoeia to make inanimate objects come to life.

I can picture them using egg shakers to make the wind blow, and quick taps on a drum to represent running or fast movement. They love using instruments to tell stories, play word games and even for math. This is something I know for sure.
