My Students

I teach at a rural, low-income pre-K-5th grade school in central Florida. Many of my students are being raised in non-traditional homes, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, step and half siblings, and foster care. More than half of my students qualify for free lunch status. Despite these challenges, our families work very hard to provide their children with the tools they need to be successful.

Kindergarten is full of new friends and new experiences!

My little learners are ready and willing to discover the world! I want to provide the most inviting environment possible for my kiddos to be challenged, interested and engaged in their educational experiences at school.

My classroom is a place where students can find the joy and excitement of discovering something new every day.

My Project

Do you remember the words to songs from 20 years ago? Me, too! Music makes an impression on our lives. Music helps us remember. Music learning supports all learning. Language development, math concepts, rhythm, patterns, movement and social skills are enhanced with music. I am requesting CDs by popular children's performers Steve & Greg, Hap Palmer and Jack Hartmann and a CD of Classical Music. I am also requesting a Rhythm and Percussion Set and a xylophone.

Music brings joy.

My students will sing along while they learn the "Months of the Year" and the "Days of the Week" with the music of Steve & Greg. My students will do the "Hip-Hop Hokey Pokey" to learn left and right with Jack Hartmann's CD. My students will create their own music with the percussion instruments in the Rhythm Set and with the xylophone. My students will parade around the classroom to the patriotic tunes of John Philip Sousa from the "Best Classical Hits CD. My students will move and groove in the classroom while they learn.

My students will benefit from the addition of music to all aspects of my kindergarten classroom.
