Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My young students love when they have opportunities to learn through movement and social interactions. They are still recovering from the effects of COVID on their education, and I can tell they desperately need more time to talk, play, and engage with each other. Many are still learning how to appropriately navigate the world and the classroom, while developing those key social-emotional skills.

My students need to practice relationship skills such as how to work together effectively, and the music classroom is the perfect place for that!

Students learn best by actively moving and playing together, and donations to this project would provide our classroom with manipulative and resources to provide this kind of learning. The bass xylophone repair parts on this list would help me to repair a couple large xylophones in the classroom, allowing them to be played by students. The books "I'm Growing Up" and "Three to Get Ready" provide lively and creative material and invite students to find ways to connect with each other through dance, recorder, finger plays, and games. Finally, the large stretchy band on our list gives endless and fun opportunities for practicing steady beat as a group, working together to create dances and movement, and showing musical form.

I'm confident that these items would spark creativity in my students, and continue to help them develop social-emotional skills as they work together.
