This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I teach 3-5-year-old students with disabilities, specifically autism. Oftentimes, my students need a movement break in between work activities. My classroom this year is big enough for me to create a gross motor section of the room. I know this area will help my students get their energy out, and be a safe space if they need a minute to refocus. It will also help on those days that we are not able to go outside for recess.

My Project

With these gross motor activities, including the ball toss, hopscotch, tunnel, and flooring, my students will be able to have a space in the classroom to go to for a movement break to help them get their energy out. This space will also be used if we cannot get outside for recess. My students are 3-5 years old, and are filled with energy. After completing their work, this gross motor section of the room will help them refocus. The floor mats will create a safe space for them to play with all of the fun games and activities!
