Movement and Choices in Learning

My students need wobble cushions, bouncy bands and a trampoline so that they can move and stay healthy while learning. They also need a couch and soft seats so that they have flexible seating options.

My Students

Gone are the days with students sitting neatly and quietly at their desks. These days adults and children find that they need to move in order to learn. They also thrive when they are given a choice about where they learn. My kindergartners would love to have more choices about where they learn in the classroom and have opportunities to move and fidget while they learn. My students crave an environment that is receptive to their need for movement and to their need for flexible seating. In an accepting and flexible classroom, my students will be able to learn and master the curricular standards and be ready for their future.

My Project

It is my goal to create a classroom environment that embraces all aspects of the student (academic, emotional and health). We already have some flexible seating, so adding a kid-sized couch and floor cushions will be good for the students because it adds choice and gives them ownership in where they sit. Adding a mini trampoline, wobble cushions and bouncy bands will increase time on task because students are allowed to move instead of using energy to be still.

By having choice of seating while learning, and allowing and encouraging movement, I am letting the students know that their individuality is acknowledged and supported.

I would love to offer classroom appropriate movement options and more flexible seating. The students will love the options for seating and the encouragement to move and learn.
