This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The classes I teach focuses on business. Specifically, accounting and management. The program offered by the school is purposeful and emphasizes the use of electronic and digital technology. However, I consider the ability to touch, see and change information and thoughts in a personal and expressive way as an important part in students feeling confident in their thoughts and abilities. This is with the aim of having students believe in themselves and recognize that life is a series of ups and downs that if managed well (things we collectively and individually decide) can be survived and really enjoyed.

For instance, connect 4 as it relates to mental health is a low-stakes strategy game that shows the importance of waiting and thinking at one's own pace.

From my experience and observation, students need justified confidence to make consistent decisions that whether good or bad, allow them to take responsibility for and feel control. It was also important for students to experience the benefit of slowing down to gather, process and positively respond to the information. The board games are all meant to have this affect while still be relevant to the class.

One of my passions is soccer. Soccer is very popular in Miami but the support it gets is lacking compared to other states and countries. Despite having a large population of groups who are known for liking soccer (futbol or football) the sport hasn't had the positive impact it should. Increased emphasis on winning and on doing what someone else wants. I want the kids to show their personality. To be expressive and goofy. To have fun.
