My Students

If we are going to prepare our children for the 21st-century workforce we literally, and figuratively, need to get with the program. My students are a motivated group of fourth graders. They attend our community school in Southern California with a total population of about 750 kids.

Why do the classrooms look the same as they did 30 years ago?

It can be frustrating for teachers who want to equip their classrooms with the most current technology. Kids today have so many impressive and amazing tools available to them, but the funding just isn't there, from pencil sharpeners to laptop computers. We need to prepare children for their futures, which will be very different from the world today. A different world requires a different approach to education. That is what I strive to provide to my students.

My Project

These materials will provide weekly review of math concepts in a fun and colorful way that kids love! We currently use the laminated cards from the Mountain Math program, but after twenty years, they are showing their age. They really need to be replaced and the new online format makes better use of technology in the classroom. The kids absolutely love Mountain Math and look forward to it every week. Who would have ever thought kids would look forward to math? The Mountain Math program helps reinforce foundational skills that students need. It helps them to move forward with challenging Common Core math curriculum.
