This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a music educator that teaches the whole elementary school, some of my classes are self-contained special needs classes that receive music therapy. These classrooms host more intensive support needs, in a separate room from general education classrooms, providing a highly structured learning environment tailored to their specific needs. Movement, motivation, and a focus on motor skills are some of the key strategies in my Self-Contained music classroom.

Special Needs teachers and therapists love to teach students to learn by playing games and having fun and sensory exploration is incredibly useful in developing their fine motor skills.

Sensory play is also proven to help children release tension and stress in a constructive way. Sensory play usually involves activities that engage multiple senses at once.

When children explore various textures, colors, and sounds in sensory play, their brains process this information, strengthening neural connections; it encourages children to explore and discover new things, which helps to foster curiosity and creativity. Because of this, sensory play is known to help build nerve connections in the brain.

Play that engages the five senses allows children to release tension and stress in a constructive manner, promoting emotional regulation and self-soothing abilities. As they become more aware of their emotions during sensory play, they also develop a better understanding of their feelings in everyday situations.

Please help me build a stimulating and interactive sensory music room with Activity Wall Panels and Tension Relief Toys for my Special Needs Music Therapy class! We also need a karaoke machine with microphones to encourage our verbal students to sing out loud!
