Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach music in a Title I school (grades PreK-5th). The students are very excited about learning music. They learn to play several instruments including precorder (preK-2), recorder (3-5), keyboard, xylophone, hand drums, and choir chimes. I like exposing my students to all kinds of instruments. Some students come to school early each day to learn to play recorders & xylophones from 7:15 -7:55 AM. I would like to introduce my students in grades Prek-first to the gathering drum. This drum will allow students to work together to create music selections of creativity. They will listen to stories being read and experiment in play the drum on different words that lend themselves to sound. The students would also explore the different ways to play the drum as well as listen and explore the sounds and vibrations that comes from hitting or rubbing the drum. This drum would enhance my music class greatly. My students in grades 3-5 would rather play instruments than sing. I want them to be singers as well because some of them have very nice voices. Having a Karaoke System would motivate students to sing more. Everyone is familiar with "American Idol". I want to create the "American Idol of My School." This year, I want to really motivate them to sing, especially the boys. This system would also travel with us when we perform at hospitals and nursing homes during the holiday season. I am always looking for ways to motivate my students to learn to express themselves through music. I know that through music, students learn self-discipline, perseverance, and high self-esteem. These are traits they will need in order to be productive citizens in our community. Please help me help our children by donating a Gathering Drum and a Deluxe Karaoke System/Player for my classroom.
