This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you used a Kindle to read a book, or the amazement on your child's face when they got to? That look of excitement and amazement is what I see when my students get a chance to use my personal Kindle. Help us be able to use them everyday to learn "WITH THE TIMES"

We are located in one of the oldest, yet poorest neighborhoods of Staten Island where some of my students lost their homes due to Hurricane Sandy.

On a daily basis, where I am happy that my students had the opportunity to complete their homework, I am amazed beyond belief at their dedication to reading, writing and math. There is no greater joy than doing everything I can for my students so that they achieve the "American Dream" in school!

My Project

With the 7 requested Kindles we will have enough for all children in the class to use them to read. After the winter break, I returned to school with my new Kindle mini, given to me by my wife as a gift. During Centers that day, I called over a few of my students to read a book with them on my Kindle. There are not many words that can explain the look on their faces when one of them read "Curious George" with me. The looked as if they had won the lottery. However great this sounds, this opportunity was only for ONE of my students. The others started to frown in disappointment. "Can I try?"..."When is it my turn?"..."I want to read on the Kindle"...so on and so forth. Sadly though as most of us know, the Kindle is a one person thing, not easy to share. Everyday since that day three weeks ago, my students have asked to use my Kindle during centers. All I can do is allow ONE of them to try. Please help us to allow ALL of my students to have a "chance"!

This will allow one of our five center groups to use them each day.

ALL of the children will be able to learn with the excitement and drive needed in today's day and age! My students will be so motivated to read each and every day.
