This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Art at an amazing school in south Florida. It is on a beautiful campus and nearly 100 years old. Our school is a K-8 center with over 900 students. I teach grades 2 through 8. There are approximately 100 students in each grade. Most of my students are first-generation Americans from low-income households and in the process of learning English: their parents often come from Central/South America. The kids love Art class. I offer them a range of arts-based activities each year, including photography, making tie-dyes, and producing collages as well as painting and drawing.

This project is for my middle school students, who need equipment for their photography / video classes.

My Project

My idea is to have students take photos / make videos around school and then have them post their work on the school website / on school social media. They would be producing the photos and films in Art class and posting the products during Technology class. This would be tremendously motivating. The kids would be making photos and videos for a purpose. They would also be improving their computer skills!

We're going to need a very good camera / video recorder to produce high quality photos and films for our school's social media.

The Olympus Mark III featured in this project really fits the bill. It is an excellent camera that is also easy to use. It would be great if my middle schoolers could produce photos / videos with the Olympus. They would be so proud to see their work online.
