My Students

The smiling faces that greet me at my door each morning come from a wide variety of backgrounds and family situations. My first grade classroom of 25 students is in a semi-urban district that qualifies for a universal free lunch program. Many of my students come to school without many school supplies. Each summer I scour the Back to School aisles looking for the best deals to supply my students with the supplies I believe they'll need to maximize his or her daily learning.

My students may not have much but what they do have, is a desire to learn!

What they are lacking in materials, I would love to make up for in my classroom. I want there to be ample supplies, materials, and activities for children to explore and practice.

My Project

In past years I have started the day with morning work that was usually a worksheet. I tried many different variations to keep it engaging while still maintaining the ability to complete it independently. But let's face it. Worksheets can only be so fun. So this is where morning tubs come in!

Morning tubs will be a perfect start to each morning to get the kids working cooperatively!

I have 12 tubs filled with a variety of manipulatives, games, or activities: letter tiles, unifix cubes, magnets, dominoes, and the list goes on. At least, I would like to list to continue! I want the tubs to hit on a variety of disciplines: math, reading, phonics, engineering, etc.

Finding a variety of activities to maintain interest throughout the entire year will require a little investment. I have enough materials to get the year started but that's where you come in! Your donation will help keep the morning fun momentum going all year!
