My Students

I have the pleasure of teaching the most amazing bunch of third graders this year. They are all so hard working and motivated to to succeed. They are great leaders and make positive choices everyday.

When students have choice in their learning they are more invested.

I would like to be able to give them more choice each day in their learning. I want them to start their day with activities that will get them ready for the day, but will also challenge and extend their thinking as they do. These activities will also allow them to collaborate and synergize with their classmates as well. When students have choice in their learning they are more invested.

My Project

Students will use these activities and materials during our Morning Choice time. This is a time in our class for students to choose. It is also a non threatening way for them to build their social emotional skills as well as using some STEM while they play. After a year and a half of distance learning, my students lack the skills to communicate and work with peers. This allows them that ability for the first 20 minutes of each day. My goal is that students will get excited about coming to school, as well as relearning how to play and socialize with others in an appropriate manner. Studies have shown that morning choice increases attendance,Promotes Socialization,

Gives Students Choice,Creates a Positive Classroom Environment and Opportunities for Play.

The items explore art, building and games. Sensory items have been added as well for us during this time, as students view them as calming. I want to provide a variety of items to allow for all students to find items they need for that given day. I want my students to be excited to start their day.

They will also be able to use their Science and engineering standards 3-5-ETS1-- 3-5-ETS3 to help them develop a growth mindset towards learning. It will allow them to synergize with classmates, a skill that was lost due to distance learning. They will be able to do this through the games, building materials and art activities. The students need a non threatening time to explore and collaborate to build their stamina for learning. I have also added items that are sensory items as well to choose during morning choice time. Allowing the morning choice time to do so is very beneficial to get my students excited
